With 10 days left in the campaign, the WWE New Generation Arena project is 56% funded.
The effort to fund the classic neon entrance way, plus an Ultimate Edition Diesel action figure and newly scaled wrestling ring has picked up momentum since Mattel added an early bird special to the project — an Ultimate Edition “Macho Man” Randy Savage action figure and classic announcers’ table set up. However, the deadline to get the early bird add ons is Friday, August 12, at 9 p.m. PST.
There is still a long way to go though to meet the 5,000 units sold minimum to make this a reality, and with the deadline to get the Macho Man set coming up tomorrow, it’s fair to wonder if the project will lose steam without the madness and fleeting hope of reaching 7,000 units to unlock Doink.
Nevertheless, Mattel and many within the wrestling figure community are making a push to get this fully funded.
Mattel WWE lead designer Bill Miekina showed off a prototype of the entrance way, which features seven light patterns. Mattel’s WWE team has worked hard in recent days to highlight the entrance way, which really should be the centerpiece of the campaign.
At its most basic level, Mattel is asking collectors to plunk down $250 for the neon entrance way, a retooled scale wrestling ring, and an Ultimate Edition Diesel action figure.
Should the 5,000 threshold be met, then the attention turns to unlocking other add ons such as an Ultimate Doink action figure at 7,000 units sold and additional ring skirts (WrestleMania and In Your House) at 8,000 units by the final August 22 deadline. There’s still a long way to go to get there though and I’d hope Mattel considers extending the deadline to the end of the month rather than a seemingly arbitrary deadline.
