Kyle Peterson: Jazwares-AEW Team Laid Off on Friday

The end appears to be here for the Jazwares-AEW line. Kyle Peterson is reporting that Jazwares laid off its AEW team on Friday.

The news is a total gut punch. The AEW team did some great work (see the Will Ospreay Supreme, the recent Kyle Fletcher Unmatched figure) and really changed the game from the start in 2020 with the interchangeable torsos and lower bodies.

Our thoughts go out to the team affected by the cuts.

The question now turns to what’s next for AEW and action figures. Major is producing AEW Big Rubber Guys (note, series 1 has been delayed again until early June), but the majority of collectors want articulated figures.

Let’s hope another toymaker sees value in AEW, which has a global reach, a major broadcast TV deal in the U.S. and a stacked roster of characters.

A benefit of Jazwares producing wrestling figures was that it pushed Mattel to evolve the WWE line

Maybe we’ll find out some answers by San Diego Comic-Con, although that may be too soon in the process.

We’ll keep you updated as things develop.

  1. Damn this is sad to see. I loved most of the Jazwares line, there were some really great figures, and yeah some stinkers but it was nice to have a bunch of really well made figures that made other companies step up their game too.

  2. Lenny Panzica was a long time Senior Design Manager on the transformers line and most recently the super successful GI Joe Classified Series line. He recently announced he was leaving Hasbro to go work at Boss Fight Studio.
Seems to me they would have to have something pretty big planned for him to jump ship. Like the launch of a new big line of figures.

Boss Fight has dabbled in wrestling figures in the past, maybe they are set to acquire the AEW line??
