Review: Shawn Michaels San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive WWE Ultimate Edition

The Shawn Michaels San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive WWE Ultimate Edition figure is going up for order this Thursday at 9 a.m. PT ($45). Thanks to Mattel for sending this to me.

Get yours Thursday through this link.

This figure, depicting Shawn from his WrestleMania 12 Iron Man match and WWF Championship victory over Bret “Hit Man” Hart, is much better than I expected. If you wanted to keep this in the package, I wouldn’t blame you.

The packaging is beautiful and I really love the blue, purple, gold and white look. It’s super clean.

Let’s get into it.

Pros: I’m really loving these two of the three head sculpts: the screaming and the boyhood-dream-coming-true sculpt. The smiling sculpt is OK but a bit cartoony. Mattel did a really great job of capturing the emotion.

The entrance gear is perfect for the Ultimate Edition with the swappable, plug-in arms. I like the molded torso piece and the pants are more colorful than I expected.

Just be careful when taking off the pants. I didn’t have any issues with them, but they seem a bit fragile.

Mid: I’m still on the fence on the removable ponytails. It works for this one, especially with the zip line.

Speaking of the zip line, it’s cool that they sent a little rope. Could use a little more rope. And maybe a harness. It feels a bit incomplete with just the zip line piece.

Cons: HBK is jacked in this era but this torso might be a little too bulky. I don’t mind it though. I’m displaying him in his entrance gear.

But he is a bit too tall, especially compared to the Elite in the same gear. Ultimates tend to be a little too tall for past Mattel scale.

The knee and ankle joints are a little loose. Hopefully it’s just mine and not a wider spread issue.

Final verdict: I’m a bigger fan of this now that I have it in-hand. 4.5/5 Sweet Chin Musics

Bonus: Here’s what the post-victory head looks like on the Elite figure.

And here’s the smile-y scan.

  1. they’ve never once did classic hbks right… he never ever wore his tights that low. I’ve been waiting for them to correct it since day one.
