The “Macho Man” Randy Savage WrestleMania VII WWE Ultimate Edition figure has been canceled. Mattel began informing retail partners today that the figure will not be released.
It’s the latest in an odd turn for Ultimate Edition 18. Pre-orders went live in May with an expected late June shipping date, which was delayed.
Earlier this month, Wrestling Collector Shop received the Randy Orton figure but not Savage. The Orton figure began shipping, and the word on Savage was another delay. Now the figure is not being released.
It’s unclear the reason why Macho Man isn’t being released at this time. Mattel hasn’t issued a public statement or responded to a request for comment.
The last time prototypes like this were shown and pulled were the Legends Elite Sting figure, Rob Van Dam Elite 91 chase figure and Chief Jay Strongbow Elite 90 figure. In the case of Sting, his licensing deal with WWE expired and he ended up signing with AEW. RVD and Strongbow were both pulled due to cultural sensitivities around the former’s attire and the latter’s on-screen character.
At this point, everything is speculation regarding Savage, who is still has a merchandise page on WWE.com.
With San Diego Comic Con this week, we’ll likely get some answers as to the why behind this one.
UPDATE: Here’s the official word from Ringside Collectibles:
“Unfortunately one of the items on your order … has been canceled. That item is: Macho Man Randy Savage – WWE Ultimate Edition 18. The manufacturer Mattel has just informed us that this item has been canceled and will not be produced. Therefore this item will need to be cancelled from your order. Please allow a few business days for the refund to be put through. We apologize for this situation caused by the manufacturer.”

This one is a big blow because I was REALLY looking forward to it. It’s my favorite match, my favorite attire, was my favorite Mattel Elite, I really got excited to see a fully updated version… I hope they give a statement, this is a bizarre cancellation.
Utter BS , plain BS, I am a Savage Mark, and I too was excited for this , getting this news is very sketchy and also seriously makes me mad…. Better be one hell of a reason for cancellation, all the other figs can pound salt. Savage , Warrior, Hogan – MEGA MERCHANDISE SELLERS. Specially Savage. I’m pissed I had several pre-ordered.
Disappointing considering it went well with the recent Wrestlemania VII Warrior. Glad I hadn’t picked that one up yet.
