Super 7 has provided a big update on the pre-orders of New Japan Pro Wrestling Ultimates Wave 1, announcing that the figures should ship from the factory before February and be in collectors’ hands in March.
The first wave of figures — Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Will Ospreay — first went up for pre-order on November 1, 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed production during the shutdowns in the spring of 2020.
Fourteen months later, the figures are finally nearing completion.
“Our promise to you was to create the best possible figures, and we are excited to let you know that we are so close now,” Super 7 wrote in the update. “We know you are going to love the final product!
“The resin sculpts shown during the pre-order were used by the factory to create the tooling for steel molds,” the company continued. “These molds are now being used for the injection process as production begins.”
Super 7 promised another update showing the painted samples of the figures “very soon” as the process comes to an end. The company also shared a look at the final packaging (see the slip cases above) as well as unpainted test shots of each figure.
Once wave one is in hand, collectors will turn their attention to the second wave, which includes Tetsuya Naito, Bushi, Hiromu Takahashi and Evil. That set is expected to ship in April 2021.
Super 7 is said to be working on the third wave as well, although the lineup has not been announced.
