Action Figure Attack, aka Steve Ozer, Mattel’s associate manager for global brand marketing for the WWE toy line, tackled a lot of collectors’ questions following the first three days of reveals.
In his rolling Q&A thread on the WrestlingFigs.com message board, Ozer addressed the future of the Ultimate Edition line, details of the forthcoming classic WrestleMania ring cart, accessory questions and more.
One of the most discussed topics was the Ultimate Edition line.
Ozer explained that future Ultimate Edition figures would not be exclusive to specific retailers, like Ultimate wave 6 with Charlotte exclusive to Ringside Collectibles and The Rock only available on Amazon.
Ozer wrote that The Fiend and “Hollywood: Hulk Hogan, as well as future waves, will be available at Target stores and other retailers, as they have been in the past.
On the subject of the Ultimate Edition Fiend, Ozer wrote that the figure will come with swappable arms, similar to the Bret “Hit Man” Hart Ultimate figure. He will also come with interchangeable hands, but no lantern or blue strap Universal Championship. Look, The Fiend ain’t cheap to make.
Here are the highlights from Ozer’s Q&A over the last couple of days.
Asked if Top Picks Elite The Fiend will be a straight-up E77 Re-Release …
- “Top Picks Fiend will have the blonder hair.”
On whether Ultimate Edition “Hollywood” Hogan will come with a shirt …
- “He’ll have the shirt.”
Asked if the hair on top of his head can be removed …
- “I think it’s already been removed.”
Asked if the Ringside Exclusive Firefly Fun House Bray Wyatt is close to a final product …
- “It’s close to final. Sorry I can’t give greater details as I’ve only seen that image of the physical figure working from home and all.”
On if the RSC Exclusive Bray Wyatt will come with a shirt or just a red painted torso ..
- It will just be the painted/molded torso.
On if the Walmart exclusive Undertaker tribute figure will be available on Walmart.com …
- “These should hopefully also be available on Walmart.com.”
On Elite 82 Keith Lee being the chase figure in the wave …
- Confirmed.
Asked if Dream Team era Legends Brutus Beefcake will come with his entrance coat or the upcoming Jerry “The King” Lawler Elite would come with a cape …
- “There is a chance …”
Asked if Legends Nikolai Volkoff will come with his red jacket with flags of the U.S. and Soviet Union …
- “He will have the jacket!”
On whether the WCW U.S. Championship will be changed from four side plates to two …
- “Change of side plates on the U.S. title is not gonna happen anytime soon but we’ll see if it’s possible down the road.”
On if Fan Takeover Elite Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat will come with a gi …
- “He will have his gi. We rarely show soft goods on these reveal renders as they’re not developed in the same way as figures.”
Asked if Steamboat will have any differences from the Flashback 3 Elite …
- “Some minor deco changes.”
On whether votes from Twitter and WWE.com in the Fan Takeover poll are weighted equally …
- “All votes counted equally. Those are the legit winners.”
Ozer also addressed the disappointment with some of the winners …
- The voting can’t take place here [Wfigs forum] guys. It’s a mainstream line carried by Walmart and the engagement and attention the line gets via WWE’s social channels and dot com is very important and valuable for this specific line and the entire Mattel WWE line. That’s not to say your voices aren’t extremely important. In my view, you have something better than a stronger say in a fan vote line. You have me here reading the boards and interacting with you on almost a daily basis. I hope with reveals like we’ve had this week that you’re noticing a lot of what’s being requested is being fulfilled (more titles, more women figs, first time Legends, ring cart, specific looks, retailer exclusive pre-orders, etc). Everything collector offering wise that I push for is looked at through the lens of delivering what the collector community wants in a way that makes sense business wise.
As for Adam Cole in camoflauge and WrestleMania XX Christian not winning …
- I know you want camo Cole and WM XX Christian. I did too. They didn’t win but that doesn’t mean they’re disqualified from being made eventually. It’ll just take slightly longer. Be patient and I’ll see what I can do with them as I have with all these request all along.
On whether Davey Boy Smith and “Superstar” Billy Graham are too big of stars to be in the Collector’s Edition …
- “Not at all. Undertaker and Rock are also Collector’s Edition figures.”
On making a Dynamite Kid figure …
- “If we can make Dynamite, we absolutely will.”
Asked if WrestleMania Elite Chyna will come with her fireworks bazooka …
- “No, but it’s a must do accessory down the road.”
Ozer also provided more details on the WrestleMania III/WrestleMania VI ring cart. The cart is taking the place of the WrestleMania 2-pack (re: the Samoa Joe vs. Rey Mysterio Elite set) for 2021. The cart will come with a basic figure of Andre The Giant or “Macho Man” Randy Savage and retail for $19.99.
Asked if the WrestleMania cart will have wheels …
- “It does have wheels and it rolls! Very fun!”
Asked if the WrestleMania cart will fit two action figures ..
- “2 figs will fit but the cart is an amalgamation between the WrestleMania 3 and 6 carts.”
On the possibility of a Tatsumi Fujinami action figure …
- “While anything can happen and he’s Legendary, I don’t realistically see a Tatsumi Fujinami figure coming to fruition.”
Asked if Sable is an option in 2020 …
- “This year, no. She deserves a figure though (or multiple) should she ever become available.”
On if Mae Young in a pant suit is possible …
- “Suited Mae – while a bit more of a long shot, not out of the question by any means.”
Asked if Young will come with a “slimy hand” …
- “Gross.” and “not gonna happen but I’m sure you already knew that.”
